Keng Tung; Eastern Shan State Adventure - 4 Days

Keng Tung (Kyaing Tong) is the second biggest city in eastern Shan State, and is the capital of the Golden Triangle region. The hills of Eastern Shan state are dotted with Eng, Lahu, Akha, Palaung, Loi, Lishaw, Shan and Wa tribes. This tour will introduce you to the beautiful Keng Tung town, visiting tribal villages by bike, trekking, and seeing breathtakingly beautiful sceneries and countryside, terraced rice fields in the lower areas to further up in the mountains. You will learn about the different tribal people, their culture, and religions (Buddhist, Christian and Animist). During the trekking in the area you will also see how the different groups live their life. Discovering the British influence in the area with a few remaining churches and residences in Loi-mwe, and enjoy the most pleasant weather in Myanmar.

Day 1

From Yangon, we’ll get your flight tickets to fly to Keng Tung. Upon arrival at the airport, meet your private car and guide, transfer to the hotel. Evening is at leisure and suggest to town walk near the hotel.

Day 2

After breakfast, guide will meet you at the hotel. Walking tour around Keng Tung city to look at traditional wooden houses and heading to central market which is quite bustling with hawkers and buyers with colourful vegetables. Our walking tour will take us to the standing Buddha Image, cultural museum and lone tree hill (planted in King Alungmintayar period 1753). There are several Buddhist monasteries, old traditional houses with stone-made roofs to see and follow by a nice strolling near Naung Tung Lake to enjoy the scenic view of the city and take some landscape photographs. During a midday break, we’ll stop at the hot springs for Shan style picnic lunch. Take some rest under the shady trees and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful countryside. At 3:00 PM continue trekking to Shan and Akha villages. Learn how they live, what they grow in every season and guide will explain the more insights of their traditions, ways of life, culture and beliefs. End of the day return to your hotel.

Day 3

After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the hotel lobby. Bikes are arranged and ready to hop on and start your active cycling journey toward Pin Tauk tribal villages (3.5 hours for biking round trip). On the way to Pin Tauk, you’ll be biking through local markets, traditional wooden houses, the rice fields, rubber plantations, and beautiful landscapes and countryside. As Keng Tung has plenty of land and still growing paddy a lot, we will see farmers in the fields and we can say hello to them. Guide will arrange a simple lunch, and get some fruits and water for the refreshment. Start your trekking tour to tribal villages such as Pan Lac (Eng), Won Lar (Akha) and Nam Lin Mai (Eng). This trip will be giving you a chance to meet and learn about the different minority people in the Eastern Shan State area. Return to Pin Tauk after the trekking and biking back to your hotel.

Day 4

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Our sightseeing starts at 7.00am. Guide and car will take you to Loi Mwe town which is used as a hill station during the British colonial period. Located 5,542 feet above the sea level. Enjoy magnificent surrounding area and pleasant climate all the way to there. We still can see a number of colonial buildings, over 100 years old house of British Governor Colonel Rubel’s and a Catholic Church and a tranquil lake at the village. The area around is stunning with forest, terraced rice fields and mountain ranges. Simple lunch at a village restaurant and continue trekking to Akha, Shan, Lahu and Wa tribal villages. Afterward drive back to Keng Tung airport and fly back to Yangon.
