This trip will cover the popular Hispaw and Kyaukme trekking tours in Myanmar as well as visitors can explore tribal villages, thrilling train journey over famous Gotteik Viaduct, green Shan hills, paddy fields and tasting foods in all seasons. Dotthawaddy River is the landmark of Hsipaw where we’ll take a boat ride. Shan villages trekking and swimming at Nam Tok Fall makes you very refreshing and feel great nature. We’d suggest to read Twilight Over Burma book before you go this region which is masterpiece and you’ll be falling in love with this romantic story of Shan Crown Prince and an Austrian girl in the United States and Shan State, its background setting of Hsipaw, the Haw and the surroundings Shan Hills and villages. Exotic Kayukme trekking is another great expedition to Shan, Palaung and Pa O tribal villages. A night stop in Pyin Oo Lwin is worthwhile and the weather is truly pleasant here. Day 1
YANGON – LASHIO – HSIPAW

Fly to Lashio and upon arrival, our guide and car meet you at the airport to transfer to Hsipaw.

Hsipaw is a small and historic town in northern Shan state. Hill tribe treks near are “unspoilt” yet and one can see the beautiful scenery and Shan palace which happens to have one of the last remaining residences of a former Shan prince. Hsipaw is a good place for easy day hikes, a boat ride and a perfect spot of trekking lovers to explore picturesque landscapes and beautiful tribal people. Walking tour takes you to southern countryside to see farmer’s villages, panoramic scenery of paddy fields and mountains, seasonal crops, river and observe a village life style and home-made business like producing hand fan, basket weaving and cheroot rolling end etc. The guide will explain in detail about Shan life around Hsipaw and a spirit house built at the entrance of the village and make sure you will get to know these hidden stories of the local people in Northern Shan state. Of course, a popular trekking spot in Myanmar among travelers and we can go there either by car or by air.

Trekking to Southern Shan Villages – afternoon

Day 2
HSIPAW – WATERFALL – SHAN VILLAGES AND BOAT TRIP (DRY SEASON EXCEPTIONAL) B, L

Breakfast at the hotel. Hsipaw’s panoramic scenery of paddy fields, mountains and the stunning landscape is inviting you today for the relaxing boat ride and trek. Morning our guide will meet you at the hotel lobby. Afterward, we’ll start the tour by walking through the rice field in Shan countryside, swim at Nam Tok Fall, walk back to Farmer’s villages, enjoy the country panoramic scenery, learn living style of Shan villages. Have Shan Rice Noodle at tiny local village mall with the local guide. A simple Shan noodle lunch is included. Afterwards, continue an hour by boat up streaming river, through nice scenery with the mountain, valley, plantations along the river, visit and sightseeing at river confluence at which swimming is available on the individual wish. On the way down-streaming by boat, visit to a SHAN village which has typical houses with a small charming garden and then return home by boat to Hsipaw. Day 3
HSIPAW – KYAUKME – PA O VILLAGES TREKKING (B, L)

An exotic Kyaukme city was built in 1902 by Sarsawcher and Mr. Twant. It’s located 850 meter above the sea level. Tea, corn and rice are major products of the town and other vegetables are growing as well seasonally. The population is about 150,000 and Shan and Palaung are majority. Day return hiking trip is 12 miles away from downtown and it’s a bit tough as we’ll be hiking up to some mountains to get to the villages. Early wake-up today and have your breakfast at the hotel. Catch your local bus toward Kyaukme at around 07:00 am in front of your hotel. Kyaukme is a beautiful countryside with lots of stunning views and most beautiful spot to do the trekking, our local guides know the perfect routing and will lead you today to many tribal villages, the tea plantations, green fields and to the steamy mountains. Local bus will drop off at morning market in Kyaukme, and we can look around for seasonal fruit to taste before we start our trekking toward mountains. Nearly 5-6 hours trekking tour, on the way, can see tea plantations, very green and beautiful scenery, farmers working in the fields, eat at local house with very simple foods and tasting season fruits whatever available on the way. Great to meet tribal people and learn their ways of life is very memorable of the day. This is a perfect active day trekking and being off the beaten tracks experience. Day 4
KYAUKME – PYIN OO LWIN TRAIN JOURNEY (B, L)

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Gokteik Viaduct train ride to Pyin Oo Lwin Morning you will get some free time to explore Kyaukme and we can visit to a local market. Guide will arrange to pack a simple lunch box and some fresh fruits to eat on the way. Enjoy a wonderful train journey through the Shan mountains crossing the mighty Gokteik Viaduct built in 1901 by the Pennsylvania Steel company and was once the second highest railway bridge in the world. The train starts from Hsipaw at 09:30 am and will get to Kyaukme station at around 11:30 AM or later. You get on the train and around 1:30 PM will reach Gokteik Viadut. Through spectacular mountain scenery the train will slowly move forward over the old railway track passing small villages and towns where vendors will enter the train to sell drinks and local snacks. Expected arrival time in Naung Cho is around 14:00 and arrival time to Pyin Oo Lwin is approximately at 5:00PM or so. Please be warned in advance, there can be delays on an historic railway like this one and train is a bit slow and old too. Day 5
PYIN OO LWIN – NEXT DESTINATION (B)

The next program is to be discussed with us. For the morning time, we’d suggest to visit former British Hill Station town by your own to see some colonial buildings, the Kandawgyi Botanical Garden with flora and fauna, old clock tower, some plantations and cottages. It’s wise to spend your morning in Pyin Oo Lwin before heading to next destination.
